Meechie Mail #8

Hey, You …

Like many of us all over the world, I’ve been following the Olympics.

It’s a marvelous thing, isn’t it? To see athletes triumph, even sometimes fail, and look so grand, so regal, still.

I have to admit that some of my favorite moments have been when the ‘old’ athlete just fucking finishes. With everything — everything — against them, including their own bodies, at times … they pushed through.

And, of course, I’m smitten with BLACKGIRLMAGIC. So full of pride and joy to see girls who look like me flipping, running, swimming to gold, over and over, again.

My sappy, sentimental self could not resist trying to adopt a little Olympic spirit in to my own life. If I could borrow just a little or that energy; just a fraction of I-can-do-it; if I can just dive for the finish as if I’ve trained my whole life for it … I might be able to find a little more stretch in my down dog, I might clean my room and get to work on time.

Then today, a friend’s status on Facebook made me rethink it all:

I have done a number of impossible things.

I already have tons of gold medals.

I have already broken records and set the mark … for me.

Sure, I can try harder, go further, and win more. I have a great example, and the best inspiration … me.

BLACKGIRLMAGIC is me, sitting on my bed, crossed-leg, writing, writing, writing.

Blazing finish lines, leaving things that don’t work for me behind — way behind.

I have done a number of impossible things.

I win.
